A New Haven native, Benson Snaider received a direct commission in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps where he served as trial attorney in Germany. Following his honorable discharge in 1966 as a captain, he worked as an assistant attorney general for the state of Connecticut and engaged in the trial of condemnation cases for the State. In 1967, Mr. Snaider worked for the Bridgeport, Connecticut law firm of Mellitz, Krentzman and Hall, whose practice concentrated on insurance defense litigation. In 1970, he joined the law firm of Slavitt & Connery in Norwalk, where he litigated cases involving real estate, zoning, development, and condemnation.

In 1972, he formed Snaider & Sullivan as a general partner in New Haven. Then in 1983, he became partner in the firm of Toro & Snaider until 1985 when he left to establish his own practice. Since 1990, Mr. Snaider has served as attorney trial referee, a position to which he was appointed by Chief Justice Peters.

He is the author of several Connecticut Bar Journal articles on condemnation law. He regularly lectures on condemnation and eminent domain for the National Business Institute and the Connecticut Bar Association.

He serves as Connecticut's sole representative to the Owners Counsel of America, an organization of eminent domain attorneys.

Mr. Snaider graduated from the University of Vermont with his B.A. in 1959. He then attended law school at the University of Virginia and received his LL.B. in 1962 and his J.D. in 1970.
